Perspectives: the View from Singapore

what is this all about?

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

Hello there! I’m Ning, a regular Singaporean teen trying to contribute to the wide range of articles relating to current affairs on the world wide web. I’m passionate about world affairs, international politics (although I do love watching our local Parliament debates, I’m also currently fascinated by how Brexit is turning out so far) and looking to delve deeper into the world of law.

Why petitworldview as the name for my blog? Seen as “weird” by my parents, dubbed as “quirky” by my friends, I’ve had to explain myself a lot when introducing this website to them. In fact, I’d decided to name this blog as such a while back in November 2019, upon the completion of my French ‘O’ Level examinations. As a passionate language enthusiast (bonjour, comment ça va?), I decided to use the French ‘petit’ in lieu of the more conventional English form with an additional -e out of a desire to commemorate my four years of difficult albeit fascinating study of the beautiful language. In hindsight, it also reflects a greater desire to remain a global citizen in perusing international affairs; I like to think of myself as a wannabe linguist understanding 3 of the main languages spoken around the world (including Chinese, my mother tongue which I am still struggling to master).
